Bonnaroo 2009 (Part 2)

June 25, 2009

In Part 1 I briefly mentioned my disappointment that MGMT got a late night spot over Animal Collective.  I still think this was a bad idea, even though I really enjoyed the AC show.  They played on Which, and that was a hard spot for them to fill considering it was during the hottest part of the day and that it is such a huge stage.  I’ve listened to several live AC shows before, including a recording of the one I finally got to see at roo, and I must say that they are one band that it is hard to capture with a mic.  I was situated left of stage when I saw them, a bit further up than the concessions, and I was held captivated throughout the entire set.  Honestly, I find it’s hard to be struck by the live version of My Girls as much as I love the song largely due to the booty shaking bass track that’s on the record but not used live (I do realize that they’ve played this song for years without it, but it really does add a bit more depth to the track).  This aside, as soon as they opened with Lion in a Coma I knew it would be a great show.  When they unleashed Comfy in Nautica, it was one of the most blissful moments of the whole festival for me.

Bonnaroo 2009 (Part 1)

As many of you may have noticed, updates to bugiin became less frequent over the last week.  This is because it is finally as stable and featured as I would like, but also because I’ve been at Bonnaroo!

It has been said that there is no sleep at roo, but I have to disagree slightly: there is simply less sleep at roo.  Among the many performers that I was fortunate enough to see are Alberta Cross, NIN, The Beastie Boys, Band of Horses, Andrew Bird, Phish, Girl Talk, MGMT, Pretty Lights, Ben Harper and the Relentless 7, Paul Okenfold, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Grizzly Bear, and Animal Collective.
